So can anyone tell me how to make blogging more effective? Is it really just a way to keep a journal or give out load comments on things that bug or interest you?
I guess, i haven't done this for some time since I wasn't sure what I should be doing to increase the use or visits to my blog.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is a photo blog, meant to increase your exposure as a photographer, right?
My advice, for what it's worth:
Post a LOT more frequently, with a lot of different types of photography. Comment on the photos in a way that is interesting to photographers and non-photographers. (Give technical AND personal info about the photos. Show your personality as a photographer and in real life.)
Find other blogs that interest you and do posts highlighting those and linking to them. As I understand it, in the blogging world there's an unwritten "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" mentality. So hopefully other bloggers will return the favor by linking to you.
